When you arrive with your pet on the day of surgery, our receptionist will greet you and your pet.  While our Receptionist is checking you in, this is the perfect time to give your pet lots of kisses and love.  Next, a member of our surgical team will arrive and bring your pet to our surgery prep area to be prepped for surgery.  Your pet will be in the hands of our experienced, skillful, and compassionate team at Veterinary Surgical Center of Long Island who will take outstanding care of your pet every step of the way.

Once the surgery is complete, your pet will begin its recovery in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU).  Our specialty surgeon will call your primary care veterinarian and will call you to provide an update on how the surgery went, any findings, and how your pet is recovering.  You can ask the surgeon any questions that you have.

For Outpatient surgical procedures, our team will contact you when your pet is ready to be picked up.  You will be given clear discharge instructions which we will review with you.

For inpatient surgical procedures that require one or more days of recovery in our hospital, your pet will remain in ICU under the care of our experienced and caring team.  Our team will continuously monitor and care for your pet and give it lots of love as it recovers.  Throughout the recovery process, we maintain communication with you regarding your pet’s condition and recovery.  We will invite you to visit your pet in our ICU, as well.  When your pet is ready to go home, we will advise you and you will be given clear discharge instructions, which we will review with you.
