VSCLI offers 24 hour emergency vet care & critical care 365 days a year to all clients, with or without a veterinary referral from the patients’ primary veterinarian. This service is open to all small animal companion pets in need of immediate medical attention. Experienced veterinarians are always on premises, assisted by technicians and assistants trained in emergency and critical care. Together, they handle a wide range of medical and surgical emergencies.

For our patients who are coming to VSCLI for an emergency, our Emergency Room is ready to help. Call us at 631-517-1773 to let us know that you are coming and to see if there is anything that you can do to help your pet before your visit. VSCLI staff is experienced in triage and can treat the most serious of cases. Upon arrival to our Emergency Room, VSCLI will stabilize, treat, and monitor patients. Patient care and client satisfaction are our top priorities. We understand each pet is accompanied by a concerned owner, and we take the time to comfort both of you.

Our emergency team utilizes the most current diagnostic and surgical technology to evaluate and stabilize patients. VSCLI’s hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostics and bloodwork, such as Digital Radiology, MRI, CT, and ultrasound. Emergency veterinary surgery services can be performed any time of the day or night.

If you think your pet needs emergency care, please contact VSCLI. Our experienced triage team of doctors and support staff will assess the patient’s needs and will communicate the patient’s needs and medical or surgical options in a timely manner.  Prior to any treatment, VSCLI’s team will communicate an estimate of potential fees. VSCLI will also communicate with the patient’s primary veterinarian and provide medical updates to them.

In addition to VSCLI’s advanced diagnostic equipment in-house, we have a centralized 24-hour intensive care unit (ICU) that is continuously monitored by emergency veterinarians, Licensed technicians, and assistants.  Patients in our care in our ICU will be continually monitored by VSCLI’s ICU staff, who will perform electrocardiography, blood pressure monitoring, and pulse oximetry (blood oxygen saturation). In addition, we have a complete in-house laboratory and can monitor a patient’s bloodwork quickly if needed.

Signs & Symptoms of a Pet Emergency:

  • Severe bleeding or bleeding that doesn’t stop
  • Obvious signs of pain (e.g., vocalization, hiding, shaking)
  • Demonstrating severe anxiety
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Bleeding from the nose, rectum, mouth, or blood in urine
  • You know or suspect your pet ingested a toxin (i.e., chocolate, antifreeze, ant or rodent poison, etc.)
  • You know or suspect your pet ingested a foreign body
  • Unconsciousness
  • Severe trauma (e.g., hit by a car, a fall from an elevated height, bite wounds)
  • Seizures and/or staggering
  • Inability to urinate or pass feces, or pain associated with urinating or passing feces
  • Inability or straining to urinate
  • Heat stress or heatstroke
  • Choking, difficulty breathing, coughing/gagging
  • Fractured bones, severe lameness, or inability to move leg(s)
  • Lacerations or puncture wounds
  • Bleeding from the nose, mouth, or rectum, or blood in the urine or feces
  • Refusal to drink for 24 hours or more
  • Severe vomiting or diarrhea (more than two episodes in 24 hours)
